The Incendiary Spangled Banner
May 7, 2010 – 9:36 amIt is a sad day when displaying patriotism towards the United States is considered “incendiary“. This is not a left/right or libertarian/statist issue.
In San Diego public school children were sent home for refusing to conceal or remove clothing patriotic towards the United States of America.
A comment by one of the students involved in the public school incident is telling. She said that it is “disrespectful” to wear patriotic clothing on “Cinco de Mayo“. She said the unofficial holiday is the only day that hispanics can celebrate their “national pride“. This “national pride” is celebrated by wear Estados Unidos de Mexico flags and those flag’s colors in your clothing. The USA is a free country but I find such expressions of “national pride” for Mexico to be out of place. I’m not advocating suppression of such sentiments, they just make no sense to me. If there is such “national pride” for Mexico why don’t those expressing such live IN Mexico?
It seems to be backwards and twisted also to allow such Mexican “national pride” to be expressed in a U.S. Public School while kids expressing “national pride” (patriotism) for the country they actually live in are suppressed. The justification was that the U.S. flag (displayed IN the U.S.) is somehow “incendiary“. The concern was that “fights” could break out. It would seem to me that administrators should focus on those who would start fights in the U.S. with people wearing patriotic apparel and correct THEM.
It seems to me the only “disrespect” on display is towards the United States and the people who love it. The only thing “incendiary” is people who would assault Americans displaying patriotism towards their country.

If they wore “Death To Bush” t-shirts, pink triangles, or clothing with something else PC on it, no one would hassle them. We know that the other side does not play fair, and that they are hypocrites. perhaps the better idea next year would be for all the American kids to organize a ‘skip day’ on May 5th, so that the anti-Americans can enjoy their triumph – alone.
Even better would be news that some of the parents were taking their children out of the school in question and using parochial schools or home-schooling. This would not only keep the children in question from being prosletysed daily, but it would hurt ‘em where it counts – in the pocket, if the school in question gets per-pupil funding.

If you think this is bad, did you see where an Ann Arbor school took the black children on a field trip to meet a black scientist, as a way of ‘role-modeling’ achievement, but the white kids were left behind? the black principal defended his actions, too, when he received deserved criticism for this stunt.
