Telling the Difference

May 16, 2010 – 12:23 pm

We all know nice people who are well meaning and patriotic.  So how do you tell the difference between the ones who value freedom and individual liberty and responsibility from the ones who are placid sheople bleating for “solutions” by government?

Here are a few submitted by a reader:

  • If those who value American Freedom don’t like guns, they don’t buy one.  If Statist Sheople don’t like guns, they want all guns outlawed.
  • If those who value American Freedom are vegetarian, they don`t eat meat. If Statist Sheople are vegetarian, they want all meat products banned for everyone.
  • If those who value American Freedom choose to follow a homosexual lifestyle, they quietly lead their life. If Statist Sheople are homosexual, they demand legislated affirmation of their chosen preferences and lifestyle.
  • If those who value American Freedom are down-and-out, they think about how to better their situation. Statist Sheople wonder who is going to take care of them.
  • If those who value American Freedom doesn’t like a talk show host, they switch channels. Statist Sheople demand that those they don’t like be shut down.
  • If one who values American Freedom is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church.  Statist Sheople non-believers want any mention of God and religion silenced.
  • If one who values American Freedom decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.  Statist Sheople demand that the rest of us pay for theirs.

Don’t stoop to the personalized name calling and gratuitous, intellectually lazy assumptions of the left about motivations.  Just note the lockstep of their political positions and behaviors.  They aren’t, generally, “bad” people.  Just misguided ones.
