The Hot Pants Bomber Deserves the Hot Seat

January 9, 2010 – 5:12 pm

Readers of my occasional writings (few though they be) know
that I do not condone torture, nor do I approve of detaining
‘suspects’ indefinitely without charges or opportunity to clear their
names. Neither of the foregoing applies to foreigners entering our
country intending to do us harm. The Christmas day bombing attempt
on a Detroit-bound flight was the work of a foreigner not in uniform;
he therefore ought to be dealt with as spy or saboteur and executed
summarily. Having been caught in the act, there is no question of
guilt. Therefore, giving him three tax-funded lawyers (more than I’d
see if I was given a public defender for a lesser charge) is not only
excessive and unnecessary, but it is positively self-hating to shower
such favor on someone who premeditatedly sought to commit an act of
mass murder. Summary execution in such a case is not repugnant to
American jurisprudence, nor to common sense.
