Muslim or not… A Crazy Man

Crazy people exist in all groupings.  While I still think that being a sociopathic dirtbag was the primary driver of Hasan’s actions, the following should be noted.
It has bee stated in the media that “Christians have their share of nuts too”.  This is an attempt to draw equivalency between acting out in a sociopathic way (murder, maiming etc) justified by religious belief.  This is an unsustainable argument.  There have been at least 1400 such acts carried out “in the name of Islam” since 9-11-201 worldwide.  No one I’ve seen can credit anywhere any similar number (or even more than 10) such acts carried out “in the name of” Chrisitanity, Bhuddism, Atheism or any other belief system.

It is also instructive to compare reactions: Read the comparison here.

Many are arguing in cyberspace about the heinous criminal Major Hasan, perpetrator of the horrible killings at Ft. Hood Texas.

In the service we called guys like him “dirtbags” (amongst other things).  Were his actions motivated by his Muslim faith?  Perhaps.  Did he use his Muslim faith as a justification for his “dirtbag” behavior over years.  More likely.  Would the right leaning punditry be calling him a “terrorist” is he was Hindu or Mormon?  Intellectually honest ones might have.  The “conservative” yappers are determined to tie wack job Hasan’s cowardly criminal actions to Islam or “islamist terror”.  I think this is a waste of space, time and bandwidth.

Hasan was a personality disordered, slacker, dirtbag.  A marginal performer who was obsessed with his “victimization” by others.  Yes, he was Muslim and yes it appears that he spoke out against his own country’s actions against Muslim terrorists.  The bottom line though is that he didn’t want to fulfill his service obligation nor his oath as a U.S. Serviceman.  Not because he was muslim, because he was a dirtbag.

On the other hand, the PC goofballs of the left seek to and wish to discount any connection to Islam regarding the heinous criminal Hasan.  This is equally misguided.  He WAS Muslim (or is as he is comatose but alive).  He DID use his faith as (at least) partial justification/motivation for his crimes.  To ignore that is politically correct silliness.

Hasan was a crazy person who happened to be Muslim.  If you want to categorize any mass killer as a “terrorist” fine.  I think that is a very supportable position.  If you want to delineate in a way that only Hasan is a terrorist because he is Muslim then you need to use the hypocrisy meter.  Hasan is a mass murderer.  Mass murderers are crazy (at least sociopathic).  Mental Health disorders and/or sociopathy don’t discriminate based on religion or politics.

  2. Certainly a dirtbag, this ‘Major’ coward. I’d expect that his Muslim professions only served to inflame his pre-existing pathologies. However, if his mosque was also home to 2 of the 9/11 bombers, them perhaps we ought to investigate. The existence of organized, proselytizing, subversives cannot be tolerated.
We ought also to question the diversity-worship that mandates ignoring the obvious – in this case, that the shooter was sending obvious signals of sympathy for al-Queda. Tolerating differences is not an obligation to turn a blind eye to subversion.
Finally, this may well be blowback. Had we been involved only in an expeditionary mission to get bin Laden, as we did in rooting out Pancho Villa, as opposed to ‘nation-building,’ we’d have fewer enemies in the world, and there would be fewer would-be jihadists looking to do us harm.

  3. One should remember, too, that Christ nowhere commands killing unbelievers, unequal justice for non-believers, not conversion by the sword, holy war, etc. Those who use Christianity as a cover for acts of hate (that includes you, Jerimiah Wright) do so in violation of their supposed faith’s tenets. One cannot make such an ironclad claim for Islam (though most Muslims are non-violent).
