Letter to My Congressman on the Health Care bill

August 11, 2009 – 6:26 pm

“Dear Congressman:
Greetings.  I oppose any and all health care/insurance ‘reform’ legislation, and will continue to do so until said legislation, in something resembling its’ final form for a floor vote (I understand that parliamentary rules allow for last-minute amendments, etc.) is available far enough in advance for both the gen’l public and Members of Congress can read the entire thing.  without reading it and knowing what is actually in the bill, the only responsible option is to vote ‘no.’
I am disinclined, based on Constitutional limitations on Federal power, to support any kind of health care/insurance bill.   I am all the more so when there appears to be unseemly haste, disinformation, and the imputation of base motives to those who oppose the idea.  A civil, honest debate about the fate of 1/6 of the US economy demands a complete understanding of what is being proposed, who will be paying for it, and whether or not experience informs judgment that the proposed legislation is both sound and realistic.
Until all of the above conditions are satisfied, a ‘no’ vote is the only responsible option (as it may still be after the final bill is read).

Thank you for your consideration. “
