Why it is taking so long to train the Iraq Army…

I just thought I would pass this along. If you have ever been on any kind of joint training exercise in partnership with any third world military, this scene will probably look familiar to you.

I know I saw shades of working with the Honduran Army back in the 80′s

  2. It’s unsurprising that things are going awry, shades of Vietnamization in the ’60s. We are trying to force our model on them, and we ignore their faint loyalty to the gov’t we set up, their clan and tribal loyalties, as well as their sectarian ones, and expect everything to be hunky-dory. A Shia from Clan A isn’t likely to enthusiastiacally follow orders from a Sunni from Clan B, with whom his family once had a blood feud, etc. Our rulers are clueless about this. They are, however, so full of themselves that they think that they can run GM, too, so this is no surprise.
Results don’t matter with our rulers, just ideology.

I agree. It is a fundamental lack of understanding of how to truly work with them within the fraimwork of what is culturally acceptable to them.
