Too much Tech?

May 20, 2009 – 9:00 am

How much of current society and culture would stop if we lost our current, know all/talk to all technology?  Does the instant news cycle change the political and social dynamic of our culture?

An interesting article explores our youth’s addiction to their gadgets.  How they make decisions based on access to their toys and associated data.  This was interesting to me because I don’t think this challenge is limited to youth.

I still enjoy getting away into the mountains to hike, camp, fish and hunt.  I invariably think about cell phone access before I go.  I rationalize this by the nature of my work and my concern for family.  Generally I am able to accept no contact though.  I think it is good for use to get away from our Tech and to continue to develop skills that aren’t hi-tech.

In a technological collapse how many of our population will be able to function even minimally?
