One Patriot’s Rules

May 15, 2009 – 1:45 pm

Informed by my faith, my politics and my core values.  Done over a lunch and not requiring years and months of thought as a collectivist seeking power might require.  It astounds me that people think Aulinsky’s “rules” work.

One Patriot’s Rules:

  1. Speak the Truth to the best of your ability
  2. Passion for Liberty, not “policy” prescriptions sway citizens
  3. A majority isn’t required for positive change
  4. Those seeking power care not for the people
  5. Those who deem political opponents as “enemies” are evil
  6. Objective Facts presented calmly trump histrionic appeals to emotion
  7. Point out and repudiate, factually and reasonably, strawmen and false premises
  8. Treat all with grace, respect and kindness no matter how ridiculous their views
  9. Point out stupid ideas not stupid people
  10. Chosen group activities are fun, dictated group activities are burdensom
  11. Focus on core beliefs don’t clutter the debate with trivia
  12. Values and principles not nostrums and policies
  13. Laugh kindly at the fear mongers and the fears they purport
  14. Focus on positives, always
  15. Don’t focus on the individual opponent or officer but the principles of liberty at stake
  16. Be Nice
  17. Don’t call people names, call the wrong ideas the names
  18. Be Welcoming
  19. Be Principled
  20. Be Passionate in a cheerful, joyful way

What “rules” do you follow?  From where have you adopted them?

  2. #3 is interesting. I bet the gay rights people(among others who might not agree with many things on this site)could draw encouragement from it.
