I’m too busy

May 15, 2009 – 8:51 pm

I’m too tired.  American Idol is on.  The kids have practice.  I have too much homework.  I’m broke. It doesn’t matter what I do, no one would pay attention to me anyway.  It’s all rigged.  I’d rather be shopping.  The bar is open.  The game is on.  I can’t miss episode 14 of season 6 of that riveting TV series.

Above are listed items I’ve noted that others have said, I have said and done and I have observed others do.  They are the collectivists ally, intent and assumption.  To many those items above are much more important than some abstraction about liberty.  About voluntary commitment, not government sponsored, coerced or paid to participation.  American Freedom degrades because we are a nation that is comfortable, prosperous and focused on our own wants and imagined entitlements.  Most of our “poor” would be fabulously well off to those truly destitute.  Many of the supposed “things wrong” with our country, according to collectivists can only be “protested” by people who obviously have the money and leisure to do so.

We aren’t saying that one shouldn’t enjoy the blessings and prosperity in life.  That one shouldn’t fulfill the commitments they’ve made to God, family, job and community.  We are saying that if we focus ONLY on those things, we play into the hands of those who wish to rule us.  American Freedom is too precious to be sacrificed in the name of comfort or convenience.

  3. This is a pet peeve of mine. Too many school activities, too many distractions, too many obligatory functions, too much distance between them al,l in a mobile, rootless society, and most people will not listen or change. The time-wasters are the enemies of the good. Children are over-scheduled – no kid should need a day planner – and the parents give in to every demand placed upon their time.
I have been in revolt on this subject for years. The only justification for being so busy is if it is driven by economic imperative, by the need to care for a family member, or the like. Until people stop being too busy to have lives free for gthought, contemplation, or friendship and community, there will be no sustainable movement to save this country. We’ll all be too busy going to soccer games to notice the slo-mo coup d’etat taking place, until well after the fact.
