Rush “Bin” Limbaugh?

April 28, 2009 – 10:17 pm

Self appointed Republican front man Rush Limbaugh is at it again. With the announcement of Arlen Specter’s change in parties, Rush has decided that this would be a good time to target others such as John McCain as people that Specter should take with him. What is he after? A kinder more conservative Republican Party, or his own personal Mujahedeen? I believe it’s a case of the latter, not the former. Rush Limbaugh had come to represent all that is wrong with the Republicans.
Why is he the voice of conservative America? Because he shouts down and bullies anyone who says otherwise, like Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele, who had to come crawling back to Rush after referring to him as an entertainer and referring to his rhetoric as being Ugly and Incendiary. I have news for you Rush. Steele is right!
Over the years Rush has become as warped and narrow-minded as Al Qaeda and the Taliban, selling his own personal brand of conservative patriotism, and branding everyone else as non believers that need to be wiped from the face of the earth.
Personally, I think someone should give him a subscription to a lifetime supply of Oxy Cotton and a broken microphone. That way everyone could be happy.

  2. What did Rush say that made you so unhappy? That Arlen Specter crossed the line into true liberal craziness by voting for that insane “stimulus” bill? That Toomey would be a much more worthy successor to the Senate from PA? That Specter, who had been a Democrat in the 1970s was returning to his true ideological home and good riddance?

Well, I agree with Rush on those points, so apparently, I disagree with you on them as well. Perhaps you can defend your sentiments on these issues instead of blasting Rush.

It really has nothing to do with Arlen Specter’s decision at all. It is more about how Rush Limbaugh is singlehandedly destroying the Republican base with his inflammatory rhetoric. He is the Republican version of Howard Stern. In my opinion, it is time for him to be pulled down from the bully pulpit that he preaches from. He stopped being a positive voice the day he started marginalizing and castigating all who oppose his point of view, and his incessant fear mongering. He promotes the worst kind of groupthink. It’s high time that he be called onto the carpet and told that his view is not the only view.
The Republicans have less than four years to rebuild a strong base of support if they hope to get back into the driver’s seat. Casting aspersions and praying for failure are not going to translate into votes at the polls. The ultra Rush Right needs the more moderate republican base as much as the ultra Obama Left needs conservative Democrats to keep their hold on running the government.
If Specter feels in his heart that he is better suited as a Democrat, I say let him go. No great loss to the Republican side of the isle, other than the vote. On that, I agree with Rush, and with you. It’s the hate filled attacks that have pushed me to write what I did. Let’s face it, an man much better than me said it all when it comes to Rush and the way he treats others. “Let ye who are without sin cast the first stone”.

  3. I must respectfully disagree, as well. There is not one Conservative I have talked to today who isn’t thrilled that Arlen is gone, and Rush said nothing that most of us weren’t thinking in the first place. I have never heard him say anything “castigating”, unless Rush was attacked in the fist place and is defending himself.

Rush Limbaugh is who helped steer me to Conservatism/Capitalism, but is one of many opinion resources I utilize. I am sure the same is true of most of his listeners. And Rush sounds like Buddha himself when compared to the likes of “Michael Savage”.

Rush may not be your cuppa tea, which is fine. But as a Republican, I can tell you that the main issues our party has are, in no particular order:

    * Failure to follow small government ideals.
    * Failure to have fresh faces articulating capitalism and small government.
    * Lack of effective use of new media resources.
    * Voter fraud.
    * Washington insiders being at odds with those of us outside the beltway.

More on these matters on another day. I am busy agitating by organizing our next Tea Party.

  4. Limbaugh is not a thinker, he is an entertainer. He is taken too seriously in an un-serious age. As for Specter, the champion of Clarence Thomas is welcome to join the party of Anita Hill. He is not the issue; Limbaugh’s influence is. While he and I dislike many of the same people, generally, it is NOT conservative to back wars of choice against countries that did not attack us and do not threaten us, and it is hypocritical to support Bush ’43, when he governed like LBJ (guns & butter), but to pan Obama for doing much the same. Limbaugh is a cheerleader for one faction of a duopoly that changes faces, but not policies.
Examples: 7 of 9 Supremes are republican appointees, but abortion is, and will continue to be, legal. The GOP gave us the Medicare drug deal, No Child Left Behind, the abortive amnesty bill, and bailouts; the Democrats do the same. Anti-war Obama continues the war in Iraq, and the drums still beat for war with Iran.
All that changes are the faces and the speed with which we are losing our liberties. Limbaugh and Co. are not thinkers, just entertainers, and they distract us from real opposition to omnipotent government, which both parties promote.
In closing, I am not thrilled by Specter’s departure; it means little, as he will vote as he always has – as a reliable member of the war-on-everything Establishment. That means very little; what really matters is that the conservative opposition is not yet divorced from the GOP and it’s cheerleaders; until that happens, genuine opposition will not advance beyond the grass roots level. (The Tea parties at least hold some promise that this is happening.)

  5. I just wish that the other RINOs would join him. Life with out Collins and Snowe would be most excellent for the Republicrats. The “big tent” should be a big conservative originalist tent not a big government, pork palace tent. If they drive enough RINOs out of the Elephant herd I’d consider rejoining it.

  6. Gas Windbag doesn’t claim Republicrat “leadership” in any way other than as parody as part of his schtick. He isn’t “the” voice of American conservatives either. He does make MANY cogent points and I don’t see them effectively (note that word) refuted often.

I’m with him though in this respect. People like Specter, Collins, Snow, Voinovich who do NOT support conservative principles are better off just being Demoncrats. Let’s bundle ALL the big government statist collectivists in the Donkey pen and either rebuild the Republicrats into a Republican party or start a new “major” party that actually supports and fosters American Freedom
