Letter to My Congressman on Current Issues

March 22, 2009 – 10:10 am

Dear Congressman:
I hope that this message finds you in good health & spirits.  I have some concerns about recent legislation, which are as follows:
1.)  How could the Administration even consider trying to make veterans’ private health insurance cover costs associated with service-connected injuries?  Do we need legislation that would take the option of doing so away from the Administration?

2.)  The stimulus bill did not demand that all workers hired with monies obtained therefrom be Americans.  I want my fellow Americans back to work, not illegal aliens.  There is no excuse for spending money that we don’t have to hire foreign workers who broke our laws to come here.

3.)  the AIG Bonus Tax is un-Constitutional, as it is ex post facto and a bill of attainder.  AIG’s incompetence should never have been subsidized with the money of those intelligent enough to have not gone broke; however, since the government saw fit to bail them out, and since SEN Dodd saw fit to convince the last Congress to let our money be used for executive bonuses, there is nothing of which to complain.  To single them out as scapegoats for the current crisis, and to confiscate bonus money lawfully paid is to impair the working of a legal contract, as well as being, as noted above, clearly and unarguably un-Constitutional.  I also dislike the idea that my Government would use its’ power to assault a select group of law-abiding citizens in this way.
it’s high time that this Congress undo the foolishness of the last Congress.  This bill, however, only magnifies the sins of the original bailout.  It is also blatant grandstanding.  If it’s really ‘all hands on deck’ to address the current crisis, we don’t need a Congress that’s AWOL while off trying to shift the blame to scapegoats.  If someone needs to be punished, it should be the malefactors in your midst, such as Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, who had a hand in making this mess.

As a freshman Congressman, I know that you had nothing to do with the legacy of mismanagement and chicanery that you inherited from the last Congress.  It is my hope that you have something to do with cleaning their mess up.

Best Regards,
-ssgconway
