But…I thought the world would love America if we elected Obama!!?!
March 5, 2009 – 11:27 amDidn’t the world only start hating us because of George Boooooosh? Like, totally? Didn’t the world just despise the great hyperpower America for “sticking our nose into their business?” Really! Wouldn’t the election of America’s first black president change all that forever? Got to! Wouldn’t the election of America’s first socialist president change all that forever? For sure! Wouldn’t the world give us warm, wet kisses from Inauguration Day on and on and on? Ya sure.
Gee, that’s what pundits told us from around the world. Their hatred was all Bush’s fault. (They carefully edited out of their statements all references to historical anti-Americanism in Europe dating back over 200 years.) That’s what Democrats said. It was all Bush’s fault. One of their campaign issues. It was all Bush’s fault. That’s what Obama said. It was all Bush’s fault. And I belieeeeeeved them all.
Silly me. I’m so totally bummed. First, Russia slaps down America, the soon to be late superpower…
If you’re inclined to believe Igor Panarin, and the Kremlin wouldn’t mind if you did, then President Barack Obama will order martial law this year, the U.S. will split into six rump-states before 2011, and Russia and China will become the backbones of a new world order.
Panarin might be easy to ignore but for the fact that he is a dean at the Foreign Ministry’s school for future diplomats and a regular on Russia’s state-guided TV channels. And his predictions fit into the anti-American story line of the Kremlin leadership.
“There is a high probability that the collapse of the United States will occur by 2010,” Panarin told dozens of students, professors and diplomats Tuesday at the Diplomatic Academy — a lecture the ministry pointedly invited The Associated Press and other foreign media to attend.
The prediction from Panarin, a former spokesman for Russia’s Federal Space Agency and reportedly an ex-KGB analyst, meshes with the negative view of the U.S. that has been flowing from the Kremlin in recent years, in particular from Vladimir Putin.
Poof. No more annoying American superpower to keep the tyrants and terrorists in line. And they still hate us.
Then, Russia slaps down Obama…
Russian President Dmitri Medvedev has rejected a proposal by US President Barack Obama that would see the US halt its planned missile defence system in Central Europe, if Iran could be convinced to give up its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles and be removed as a nuclear threat. The Interfax newsagency reports that Medvedev was willing to discuss the US missile plans but was not prepared to link this to Iran. The New York Times reports that Obama had made the offer in a secret letter to Medvedev three weeks ago.
Brilliant, just brilliant. The Messiah plays the fool on the international stage. That’s what happens when you’re all diplomacy and no bite. And they still hate us.
Then, Iran threatens Obama…
Iran’s supreme leader on Wednesday criticized what he called President Barack Obama’s “unconditional” support for Israel, saying he was following the same mistaken policies as the Bush administration.
The comments from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has final say on all state matters, underscored the difficulties Obama faces as he seeks to improve relations with Iran given the deep disagreements on both sides on issues like Israel and Iran’s nuclear program.
Khamenei said Obama spoke of change during his campaign but supported Israel’s devastating three-week offensive against the Gaza Strip earlier this year that killed some 1,300 Palestinians.
The offensive aimed at halting rocket fire from the militant Palestinian group Hamas started in late December before Obama took office. At the time, Obama mostly deferred to then-President George W. Bush when asked for his position, saying there could only be one U.S. president. But during the campaign, he spoke in strong support of Israel’s right to defend itself from Palestinian attacks.
“The new U.S. president, who came to office on the slogan of bringing change in the policies of the Bush administration, speaks of unconditional commitment to defend Israel’s security,” Khamenei said Wednesday, addressing a conference on supporting the Palestinians in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
“This means the same wrong path as the Bush administration and nothing less,” he said.
Obama has said his administration is looking for opportunities to engage Iran to help reduce tensions between the two countries that increased during Bush’s time in office.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said Iran would welcome talks with the U.S. _ but only if there was mutual respect. Iranian officials have said that means the U.S. needs to stop accusing Iran of seeking to build nuclear weapons and supporting terrorism, charges Tehran has denied.
Bow down to your masters, Iran tells Obama. Bow down if you value your life. Will Obama grovel some more? Almost certainly. And they’ll still hate us.
And then, Obama, kissing up to anything that looked like diplomacy, really stepped in it when his diplomats got involved in the planning of the virulently racist “anti-racist summit” in Durban, known as Durban II. Durban I included some of the most vile anti-Semitic diatribes since Hitler. But Hillary Clinton’s State Department never met a leftist conference it didn’t like…
Obama administration announced yesterday that it’s withdrawing from the UN group preparing for the “Durban II” conference. Multilateralism, the new team is fast discovering, isn’t everything it’s cracked up to be.
The administration’s foreign-policy performance has been uneven so far – with this debacle merely the most obvious mess. Where some had believed President Obama would pursue a moderate, pragmatic course, his administration increasingly seems not only highly ideological, but naive and uninformed – exposing and endangering America and its allies.
One example of pure ideology was having the United States engage in preparations for “Durban II,” a UN “anti-racism” conference in April intended to update a 2001 conference (held in Durban, South Africa). Ostensibly designed to find common global ground against racism, Durban I instead focused on isolating and delegitimizing Israel as “racist.”
Durban I was also, just below the surface, profoundly anti-American. It was so offensive that the United States walked out rather than dignifying the final conference document, even by voting against it.
This courageous act, however, became a basis for complaints about President Bush’s “unilateralism” and “abandonment” of diplomacy. On the international left, these mantras became a theology that the new administration now seeks to advance in a variety of foreign-policy areas.
By joining preparatory work for Durban II, however, the White House has proven not only naive, but destructive. The move isolated our ally Israel, embarrassed our ally Canada (which had already announced its boycott of Durban II) and cut off at the knees several European allies who were on the verge of announcing their Durban II boycotts.
How’s that for “diplomacy”?Of course, the State Department rarely encounters a conference it doesn’t want to attend. Left to themselves, State’s bureaucrats would never have walked out of Durban I – or withdrawn from the looming mess of Durban II.
The administration has now effectively admitted its mistake by withdrawing from the Durban II preparations. But why did it get involved in the first place?
Live as a doormat. Die as a doormat. And they’ll still hate us.
One Response to “But…I thought the world would love America if we elected Obama!!?!”
Foreigners that hate America abound and are only rivaled by American collectivists (who produce NOTHING of value) in their hatred. Fortunately, many from other lands still see America as a beacon of hope in an enslaved or collectivized world.
