The Rise of Baberaham Lincoln

September 11, 2008 – 5:43 pm

With a nod to “Wayne’s World” for the title reference, I have a confession to make.  I’ve fallen for Gov. Sarah Palin.   Don’t tell my wife…and it’s purely platonic, anyway.  But this is The Moment.  An old-fashioned street fight over how America will be, at it’s core, for more than just the next four years.
Sarah Palin…I have to admit that I didn’t think Mac had it in him.  The Romney/Lieberman rumors were a marvelous head-fake.  But the ground had been prepared beforehand.  who were Gov. Palin’s John the Baptists?  Ron Paul, speaking for the Old Right – Tafties who wanted a non-interventionish government, both at home and abroad, and Mike Huckabee, who is unashamed of the Gospel, whatever his other faults may be.  Both are anathema to the Establishment, though Huck’s charm helps him there to an extent.  Both mobilized legions of followers.  Both fell far short of winning, but both mobilized Americans who had no other home for their views, and regardless of how completely Gov. Palin meshes with their world views, she is the inheritrix of their support.
Some of these voters were Buchannanites, as Gov. Palin was, in 1996.  Some may have been Perot voters, though he wouldn’t fully fit gthe profile, as his movement was secular.  But the trend Buchannan and Perot began in 1992, over NAFTA, the Culture War, and the out-of-control government that is a greater threat to our liberty than bin Laden, has been without a home on a major ticket.  Until now.
I’m going to support this ticket, in the full knowledge that McCain is on top of it, not Palin.  The world is getting darker, lights are going out across the globe, and it feels like 1931, or 1938, all over again.  If we fail to take our best shot at altering the course of events, then we may find a latter-day Diocletian regulating our civilization out of existence, in an attempt to save it.
Godspeed, Sarah.  And to you, too, Mac.

Hold your nose or vote your conscience, Uncle Sugar will get bigger and fatter over the next 4 years.
