Greatest

July 7, 2008 – 9:02 am

On the Fourth of July, Independence Day we stop to mark the birthday of the greatest enterprise of freedom in human history. Read Craig Smith’s appraisal.

While we must work to resist the encroachments of the ever burgeoning nanny-state that the collectivists would have us live under, we must recognize the blessings we do have.

We have freedoms and prosperity only dreamed of by most of the world. Such freedoms and prosperity that some of our citizens can lament things as “crises” that others in the world would consider miraculous benefit. We have the freedom to attack the authors of our happiness, our founders and our creator. We have the leisure to imagine “emergencies” unfounded by fact, to anthropomorphize animals to give them “rights”. To mark physically detrimental and unnatural behaviors as “civil rights”.

We enjoy unprecedented equality of opportunity and standing before the law regardless of origin, skin color or sex. We enjoy great freedoms originated, protected and fostered by our great progenitor citizens.

While it is our responsibility to work for a return to the constitutional government designed and intended by our founders, we must not forget. The liberties of the United States of America allow us to be activist for appropriate (and inappropriate) reforms.

God Bless the U.S.A.
